Only Murders in the Building: Everything We Know About Season 2

Here’s everything we know about Only Murders in the Building season 2:

It’s coming back sooner than you think. On Friday, March 25, Hulu announced that the show would return this summer. On June 28, 2022, to be exact.

Cara Delevingne has joined the cast. She’ll be a series regular, Deadline reports. Her character’s name is Alice, and she’s an art-world expert who becomes embroiled in the season’s mystery. Given that the show is about mysteries, Delevingne isn’t allowed to reveal much about her storyline, but she did get a chance to dish on the costumes, telling Elle, “It’s definitely most like me than any other character I have ever played…but with some more daring looks, for sure.”

However, on May 5, we learned a bit more about Delevingne’s role—including the fact that she’ll be playing the love interest of Gomez’s character, Mabel. According to Vanity Fair, Alice is “an art-gallery owner of her own generation who puts Mabel in touch with a side of herself she’s been somewhat neglecting since the show began.”

“It’s a little sparky in all the right ways that makes you feel like, ‘Oh, someone’s opening someone’s world,’” Hoffman told the publication.

So have Amy Schumer and Shirley MacLaine! We are being absolutely spoiled with funny women next season. “Before Christmas, [I shot scenes with] Shirley MacLaine and Amy Schumer,” star and executive producer Martin Short revealed to Deadline on January 12, just after earning a SAG Award nomination for the show. “The quality of actor that this show is attracting makes it endlessly fun to go to work.”

According to Vanity Fair, Schumer plays a “slightly unbearable” version of herself, much like Sting in season 1. Meanwhile, MacLaine will play the mother of Bunny (Jayne Houdyshell), who was found dead in the season 1 finale.

Nathan Lane is coming back too. In the same Deadline interview, Short confirmed that the theatrical and sneaky Teddy Dimas will make an appearance. Cannot wait.

We’ve got a trailer! From the looks of it, season 2 picks up right where season 1 left off, with the central trio trying to clear their names by solving the mystery of who killed their latest neighbor. In the trailer, full of quick cuts, we get glimpses of Delevingne, MacLaine, and other new characters (plus returning faves like Nathan Lane and Amy Ryan), but we don’t learn much about the plot, except that it seems to be similar to what we’ve already seen. The podcasters keep podcasting, the building reveals secrets, Martin is dry, Gomez is laconic, and Short—well, Short brings the razzle-dazzle.
