The probability tree that grows out of teen stardom can be a gnarly one, but Joe Jonas—former boy band heartthrob, current man band (?) heartthrob slash well-heeled man-about-town—seems to have found himself a good branch. Joe and his wife, actress Sophie Turner, are expecting their second child. He’s got new music on the horizon with his non-Brothers band, DNCE. And of late, he’s leaning hard into what we’ll call the Dimes Square look: a post-everything, irony-dipped mix of 70s, 90s, and early aughts fashion.

One day, he’s strolling around in a pair of perfect blue jeans, a walnut-brown work jacket, and a cheeky Joe’s Diner tee (shoutout Lee, Massachusetts!); then, he’s in a knit Emily Dawn Long bucket hat, moto jacket, and studded carpenter pants. Indeed, the man is a pants virtuoso, sporting a seemingly endless supply of just-embellished-enough denim: snug vintage pairs, double-knees galore. Add in some vaguely greaser-style hair and tinted Odessa 1919 shades, and he’s good to go.

In fact, according to Sophie, Joe might even be trying too hard: “He surprisingly puts in a little bit more effort than me,” Turner told Vogue last year. “He’s always embraced high fashion and dressing up. I thought it was psychotic how he would wear jeans during the pandemic, while we were just sitting at home. I was like, What kind of serial killer does that?”

In that sense, Jonas, like actor Ryan Reynolds, is a good example of celebrity daytime dressing: what famous people wear when they’re dressed up for the street, not the red carpet. After all, the camera is always watching.
